Since 1978
Composed entirely of volunteers, each year the Historic House Tour committee puts on a tour of historic houses in Santa Clara. The tour illustrates how historic buildings have been restored to create delightful homes. Sharing these jewels helps demonstrate the value of keeping historic neighborhoods intact.
In 1987, Following the City of Santa Clara’s purchase of its last remaining intact farmstead, which was designated the Harris-Lass Historic Preserve, the Historic Preservation Society was founded to oversee the property with its historic house, barn, tankhouse and summer kitchen and to operate the Harris-Lass House as a historic house museum.
The Old Quad Residents’ Association (OQRA) was founded in 1992 to advocate for a change to the City’s land-use policies that adversely affected the preservation of historic homes in the Old Quad, Santa Clara’s historic neighborhood. The group’s mission is to encourage historically compatible development (including parks and heritage trees) and foster community spirit in the Old Quad, by hosting social and cultural events.
Proceeds from ticket sales benefit non-profit groups in Santa Clara, that are engaged in historic preservation projects such as: The Santa Clara Library, The Santa Clara Woman’s Club, and The South Bay Historical Railroad Society.
